Bexar County Police officers responded to a welfare check on December 23 at a home belonging to Thomases Calvera Jr, near San Antonio.
His father requested a welfare check after he allegedly went missing. He searched for his son in his home but couldn’t find him.
But officers found the 30-year-old man’s body in a closet located in a master bedroom inside the home. Calvera had a fatal gunshot wound to the face.
Later that day, a witness contacted the police to report a burning vehicle at the same residence. A yellow gas can and lighter were found in the GMC truck. The truck suffered severe interior damage.
Allegedly, Faith Paige Goynes was seen walking away from a burning GMC Sierra 1500. She was putting out burning flames on her clothes. The 40-year-old woman was Calvera’s common-law wife.
Police officers found Goynes paddling in a kayak nearby, attempting to make her escape. After authorities determined that the truck belonged to Calvera, she reportedly confessed to shooting him and burning his truck.
According to KSTAT, she was found in possession of Calavera’s ID card and had severe burns on her right hand.
She was quickly taken into custody. Goynes was charged with murder and arson causing serious bodily injury or death in the death of her husband.
There is an ongoing investigation into the incident and a bond for Goyes hasn’t been set. Her motive is unclear and the couple had a child together. Hopefully, the child is safe.
