A Clockwork Orange Poster

UK Quad linen-backed poster for Stanley Kubrick's "Clockwork Orange" (1971).

Suitably disturbing design by Philip Castle (one of the pioneers of air-brush painting) on this evocative 1970's poster. The early 1970's witnessed a slew of boundary pushing films ("The Exorcist", "Last Tango In Paris" etc) & "Clockwork Orange" was no exception. However, the furore surrounding "Clockwork Orange" was special & after several "copy-cat" violent assaults, Kubrick (who lived in the UK), started receiving death threats! After a limited West End release, cuts to the film were demanded. Kubrick refused to let his film be butchered & as a consequence "Clockwork Orange" never received a general release in the UK. For this reason, original "Clockwork Orange" Quad posters are genuinely scarce (beware smaller sized repros & the 2000 re-release poster).

Poster linen-backed & in excellent condition with light restoration only (to slight foldline wear & to a few pin-holes just to the left rim). Restoration carried out by the Movie Poster Art Company. Poster presents superbly & the white background has not been re-painted as some restorers are prone to do. For an idea of relative value, at the time of listing the London gallery price of a similar example was £1,675.

NB. Due to the value of this item a supplementary P&P charge will be required for overseas buyers.
