Balham London Underground station is one of the busiest in South London and is used by thousands of commuters every day.
As people mill about the platforms, it's doubtful that many pause to consider the plague that adorns one of the walls of the station that sheds some light on one of the most horrific incidents to happen to the community.
It reads: "In remembrance of the civilians and London transport staff that were killed at this station during the Blitz."

On the night of October 14 1940, the station suffered a direct hit from a fragmentation bomb during the Blitz.
The blast carved a deep hole through the station's platforms and street above devastating the area and its transport network.
Dramatic archive photos of the damage caused that night.
The bomb hit Balham High Road and carved a deep hole in the road surface dragging down a London bus with it.
Shops and homes were also obliterated and many collapsed onto the road.
In the tunnels below, things were worse.
The bomb caused part of the northbound platform tunnel to partially collapse.

As the pipes above ruptured, the platform was submerged in water, mud and sewage.
Tragically, 66 people were killed as a result of the blast and the station was out of action until January 1941.
