New Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga promises to uphold probity and foster unity
Shortly after being selected as the Majority Leader of the 9th Parliament, Mahama Ayariga delivered a statement emphasizing his commitment to responsible leadership and national unity.
Reflecting on the legacy of his predecessors, Ayariga remarked, “I am guided by the illustrious precedents set by former distinguished leaders of our caucus.
Twenty years ago, our current Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, led us, followed by Hon. Cletus Avoka, Hon. Benjamin Kunbuor, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, and most recently, Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson. Their leadership styles will remain guideposts.”
As Leader of the House and Government Business, Ayariga assured Ghanaians of his unwavering commitment to fulfilling the mandate given to President John Dramani Mahama and the 187 members of the NDC caucus.
“We will rigorously pursue the agenda to reset Ghana,” he declared. He further quoted President Mahama, emphasizing that the overwhelming parliamentary majority would not be misused.
“Even though we are an overwhelming majority, we will strive for inclusivity, and consensus-building, and deeply uphold the principles of probity and accountability in the fulfilment of the dreams of our founding fathers. We will foster national unity, advance democracy, and ensure equitable development.”
Acknowledging the challenges ahead, Ayariga remained optimistic. “The road ahead will not be without challenges, but I am confident that together, through constructive dialogue and mutual respect, we can overcome any obstacles and deliver on our collective vision,” he stated.
He concluded with a call to action, urging his colleagues and the nation to remain steadfast in their commitment to the people of Ghana. “Their trust must inspire our actions and guide our decisions. It is for them that we will build a prosperous, united, and democratic Ghana.”
