Crime Branch police arrested 9 persons under the gambling Act, and seized a cash of around Rs 41,300 in a raid conducted during the wee hours of Saturday at Tarir-Siolim.
Of the nine accused, one of them is said to be a government servant, and have been subsequently released on bail.
According information following a tip off the Crime Branch police team headed by PI Dattaguru Sawant under the supervision of S P Karthik Kashyap conducted the raid at around 2 a.m.
Sources informed that the gambling activity was conducted along the roadside in an open place at Tarir-Siolim for the last couple of years.
It is learnt that those in this illegal trade had made adequate arrangements for lights at the open venue so as to conduct the gambling activity at night.
Sources claimed that villagers had raised concerns over the rising popularity of the illegal activity, which was being openly carried out without the fear of any law enforcing agency, among the local youth.
