It’s the time of the year, when WWF-India’s Wild Wisdom Quiz comes to Goa inviting all students to participate and win fabulous prizes. The theme declared by the United Nations is ‘International Year of the Soil’. This year’s quiz will be hosted by the charismatic and much loved Joed Almeida of Radio Indigo, at the Goa Science Centre on August 27.The top three teams of the national level quiz in the middle school category will be gifted an experience like no other- a camp at a national park! WWF-India will be responsible for travel costs of the winning teams, ie two tier AC train tickets for the school team of two students and a teacher. Boarding and lodging at Delhi will also be taken care of. There are also android tablets, bicycles and WWF merchandise up for grabs.
Quiz Coordinator, from WWF Goa Manisha Rao says: “The Wild Wisdom quiz this year is focused on bringing attention to that often ignored but critical ecosystem, the soil. The theme ‘Secrets of the Soil’ is a great opportunity for kids to learn about the environment and raise awareness about conservation issues. I request all schools to participate as not only will their students be recognised on a national platform, it will also spread awareness about the issues pertaining to soil conservation.”
This year’s national quiz will test children’s knowledge on soil, minerals, evolution, climate change and sustainability, apart from issues of Indian wildlife and global biodiversity. This is an exciting opportunity to learn about issues concerned with soil and animals.
The quiz is open for students of classes three to twelve in three respective categories: junior school (classes three to five), middle school (classes six to eight) and high school (classes nine to twelve). Registrations for junior and middle schools are open till July 31, 2015, while the high school quiz, which is an online version, is open till October 15, 2015. Schools will have to register themselves on https://quiz.wwfindia.org/wwq/index.html for participation. Children taking part in the senior school quiz will have to individually register online on the same website.
For the junior and middle school level, the preliminary round of the quiz should be conducted by the participating schools, as per their schedules before the August 15. The schools must appoint a teacher to take charge and coordinate the event. This teacher will have to register the school on the given website, providing details such as the phone number and email ID of the school, as well as the number of children participating in the quiz. Upon registration, the school will receive gift kits to be given to each participant and questionnaires for the first round. The two highest scoring participants from each school will then take part in the city level quiz, which as mentioned, will be held on August 27 at the Goa Science Centre, Miramar.
The national final for the middle school will be held on October 7, 2015 in New Delhi. The winners of the Wild Wisdom Quiz 2015 will be taken on an adventure trip to a national park. The camp experience will provide students with an opportunity to live amidst nature and witness it in full glory. The students will also take part in multiple adventure sports during this trip
