8th edition of the Goa Arts and Literature Festival to begin on December 7

The Eighth Edition of the Goa Arts and Literature Festival (GALF) will get be inaugurated on December 7 at Maquinez Palace. For the following three days, December 8 to December 10, GALF 2017 will be held at The International Centre Goa (ICG), Dona Paula.

Goa Arts and Literature Festival (GALF), 2017 will see the participation of many prominent and acclaimed authors, poets, journalists and artists from India and abroad with emphasis on Indian languages, including Konkani and Marathi from December 7 to December 10.

Goan artist Hanuman Kambli has designed the  official artwork for this edition. The personalities who will be a part of GALF 2017 include Sahitya Akademi Award winners like Ganesh Devy, Ramachandra Guha, Jerry Pinto and Ranjit Hoskote, along with the 2015 Man Booker Prize nominee Anuradha Roy. Many known persons will also attend the festival as delegates including  writer, critic and literary historian, Rakhshanda Jalil and environmental journalist and travel writer, Prerna Singh Bindra.

The North Eastern Council (NEC) will also send writers like Patricia Mukhim. International participants will include Singaporean, Edwin Thumboo and Gabriel Rosenstock from Ireland.

GALF 2017 will also host defence journalist Nitin Gokhale – the author of Securing India the Modi Way: Pathankot, Surgical Strikes and More (2017); Prashant Jha, the author of How the BJP Wins: Inside India’s Greatest Election Machine (2017); and the author of Asia Reborn (2017), Prasenjit K Basu; as part of its focus on history, contemporary Indian politics and international relations.

At this year’s edition there will be book launches by Tishani Doshi, Salil Chaturvedi and Victor Rangel Ribeiro.

Bookstalls by Broadway Book Centre, The Dogears Bookshop, The Other India Press, Niyogi Books, Oxford University Press and Jaico Books will be set up at ICG during the festival.

GALF 2017 will also have a special focus on children and young people. The organisers plan to line up leading authors and books for tailored programmes that can be both accessible and enjoyable for the youth.
