Nicole, who has carpal tunnel syndrome (new window), faced considerable challenges finding a job that would accommodate her. She was finding that she could no longer do a lot of things that she used to take for granted.
Nicole joined the Employ-Ability program in Burnaby, British Columbia (new window), at a point in her life when she didn’t see any other opportunities for herself. She had been applying to a number of positions that were simply not a good fit.
With the help of Employ-Ability staff, her strengths and skills were analyzed and she was able to hone in on an interest in the hospitality industry and tourism. Staff helped Nicole brush up her interview skills, resume and cover letter, and introduced her to the Workplace Inclusion Initiative (new window). The initiative links job seekers to the hospitality industry.
Nicole was interviewed and very quickly offered a job at the Pan Pacific (new window), a five star hotel known for its consistent delivery of luxurious accommodation, high quality amenities and service excellence. While she will be starting at an entry level position in the switchboard department, she hopes to quickly move up the ladder by applying to internal positions.
Congratulations, Nicole!
