The Times and The Sunday Times launch the Tech Summit, in partnership with Slack
Monday 13th March 2023: The Times and The Sunday Times announce the return of its flagship Tech Summit, in partnership with Slack. This summit will unite the UK’s CIO’s, CTO’s and senior innovation experts in an agenda-setting dialogue, addressing how technology can solve the world’s complex problems, and issues vital to the success of UK businesses in 2023.
Now in its second year, the 2023 Tech Summit will take place both in-person and virtually on Thursday 23rd March 2023 at the News UK Building, London, and virtually via Hopin, our conference-hosting platform. This summit aims to put the future of British technology under a microscope, examining opportunities and key topics for British tech businesses moving forward. The audience will hear from some of the most prominent voices in the industry, including Euan Blair, Co-founder & CEO of Multiverse; Jordan Brompton, Co-founder of myenergi, and Derya Matras, Vice President, Middle East, Africa & Turkey at Meta.
Katie Prescott, Technology Business Editor at The Times, will open the summit with a welcome talk, before the event proceeds with three panel discussions and fireside chats.
Katie Prescott commented: “I’m very excited to host the Times Tech Summit, which brings together the best UK and global technology companies, policy makers and thinkers at a time of great change for the industry. 2023 is a crucial year of unprecedented regulation for technologists, set against a turbulent economic backdrop following the pandemic years. But it is also a period of great innovation and optimism, as we have seen from the exploding popularity of AI in the past few months and the ever increasing focus on climate tech. We will be discussing all of these issues and more across the day, with senior guests from the world’s foremost businesses.”
The summit’s agenda addresses the fundamental questions for the UK’s senior tech leaders: what can technology do to ameliorate a period of national and global political crisis? How is Generative AI being used to boost industriousness? And how can tech companies ensure they’re recruiting the prime talent to maximise their potential?
In the Can tech save us? panel session, Jordan Brompton, Derya Matras and Hannah Prevett, Deputy Editor, The Times Enterprise Network, will join two other tech leaders to discuss the role British tech has to play in solving a political crisis compounded by rising energy insecurity, instability in the NHS, and the looming threat of climate change. Later in the day, the “Generative AI” panel will bring together Glen Robinson, National Technology Officer at Microsoft and Katie Prescott, among others, to discuss whether the potential harms of Generative AI technology have been lost in the hype created by boosts in productivity. The final panel, Tech talent - the new realities, will bring Euan Blair, Jessica Hall, Chief Product Officer at Just Eat and others into dialogue, investigating how businesses can close the talent gap, and understanding DEI as a strategic imperative in recruitment drives.
