Paterson Police Department Promotes 9
PATERSON, NJ – Nine members of the Paterson Police Department were promoted in a city hall ceremony on Wednesday.
“Today it is a distinct honor to administer the oath of office to those who have proven themselves worthy or partners in Paterson’s progress.” Mayor Andre Sayegh said. “It’s not easy being a police officer, especially in this climate. It is important to be a resource in this environment because you will all be tested so that we know you can be trusted. To those who are being promoted, I congratulate you on behalf of the entire city.”
The promotions included individuals with strong familial ties in law enforcement and a historic promotion to lieutenant of an African-American woman, Karen Rayfield as she is the second African-American woman to be promoted to the rank of lieutenant after Lieutenant Sharon Easton.
Steven Rooney was promoted to the rank of Captain, while Erick Colondres and Claude Mineo were promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Additionally, Thomas Giaquinto, Giuseppe Giordano, Wilson Lazu, Ariel Sandoval, and Christopher Polankay were promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
“I am confident because the entire police department is a talented group of individuals that are truly dedicated to the welfare of our residents,” Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale said. “Don’t lose sight of that and keep that in your mind and your thoughts, and you will always succeed as we move forward into the future.
Police Chief Englebert Ribeiro echoed the sentiments of the mayor and director, saying, “It is your responsibility to create an environment where you also can learn, grow and develop to high standards that the public expects of us and that the public deserves. I expect great things from you all, and I remind each one of you to lead your officers and do your part to maintain the trust within the public.”
