With just a passing glance at The Weeknd warily navigating a maze of illuminated corridors during the Super Bowl halftime show, we felt it coming.
One golden, glorious meme.
After The Weeknd looked lost during the shiny hallway part of Sunday’s performance, people started comparing his intentional disorientation — acting, if you will — to various other feelings and events in their lives ... but mostly confusion.
The flashing labyrinth alternately channeled a funhouse, Atlantic City’s Trump Plaza (in its heyday) and the inside of a slot machine, but mostly The Weeknd’s Las Vegas aesthetic in his “Heartless” video.
The effect was magnified as the singer held a camera close to his face, giving us a selfie-eye view of the dizzying action.
Some good-natured riffing and comparisons followed. The daze was like ... being lost in a store as a child! Frazzled on a Zoom call! Trying to figure out the context of a meme!
All relatable examples, pandemic or no.
We may just be chuckling heartily until it’s half past five.
