Brandon Jacobs will be released by the Giants, news The Star-Ledger's Mike Garafolo broke today. The team will release the seven-year Giant days before the massive running back would have been due a $500K roster bonus and after several attempts to reach agreement on a pay cut. Garafolo reports that the Giants will realize $5 million in salary-cap savings with the move.
Many NJ.com Giants-fans are reacting with mixed feelings to the departure of a guy who often led with his mouth instead of his shoulder, but who nevertheless played a sometimes key role in two championship seasons. Jacobs' fire was largely appreciated, even if it wasn't always productively applied. Many of the comments speculate on how the team will address the running back situation in next month's draft and in free agency.
