In light of Syracuse quarterback commit Tommy DeVito being named a member of the 2016 Elite 11, NJ.com reached out to Bleacher Report national football recruiting analyst Tyler Donohue, who covered the event in its entirety, for analysis of the performance that got DeVito to The Opening Finals.
The 6-2, 190-pound Don Bosco (Ramsey, N.J.) quarterback held over 15 offers, including Rutgers, Maryland, Boston College, Syracuse, Temple, Bowling Green, Toledo, Yale, UPenn and others, before committing to Syracuse on April 16.
In 2015 as a junior, DeVito accumulated 1,689 passing yards and 17 TDs (to only five INTs). And he also rushed for an additional score.
"Throughout the weekend, the coaches told me to stay the path and keep working hard," DeVito told NJ.com's Braulio Perez. "To be honest, that pushed me. They told me that if I kept working that it would pay off big for me in the end. That extra talk and the belief they had in me was big."
With his selection to this year's Elite 11, DeVito also earned a spot at The Opening Finals, which will take place in Beaverton, Ore., from July 5-10.
