Being a veteran officer in the Hudson County Sheriff's Office for a number of years, I find it necessary to respond to the letter entitled "Under Perez, morale is low," written by a retired officer Arthur Hopkins in the March 18, 2010 edition of The Jersey Journal. This person cannot be referring to the new Hudson County Sheriff's Office in his letter.
First of all, having served under the prior sheriff I can certainly compare the two administrations. There has never been a more professional and proactive sheriff than our Sheriff Juan M. Perez and his administration. The morale has never been higher in the department and this sheriff has brought the office to new heights causing us to be a showplace for the rest of the state in law enforcement.
The revision in the uniform has caused our department to stand out and has assisted us in stating that we are proud to be Hudson County sheriff's officers. The footwear is comfortable and assists us in the commission of our duties, whether it be in the courtroom or on the street. The sheriff increased the uniform allowance and was instrumental in obtaining the best contract ever for the officers and detectives.
We are proud to work under the able, professional and honest leadership of Hudson County Sheriff Juan M. Perez.
