Chatham Borough honored its fallen heroes and veterans during an early morning ceremony in downtown Chatham.

Close to 100 people braved the cooler temperatures and threat of rain to participate in the event led by Council President Leonard Resto.

Troop 8 Boy Scouts and the Chatham Fire Department Color Guard participated in the flag raising and Pledge of Allegiance. Liam Driscoll sang "The National Anthem" and "America the Beautiful."

Second Graders at Washington Avenue School, under the direction of art teacher Kenji Hasegawa, designed, put together, and painted one of a kind lapel flag pins which were presented to all the veterans in the crowd. Herb Ramo, WWII veteran of Chatham, led the wreath laying with Leonard Restoat the plaques honoring the Town's fallen soldiers. Doug Allan of the Chatham Fire Department assisted in plating of "Taps."

The benediction was led by St. Patrick's Church Deacon Andrew Dutko. Coffee and bakery goodies were offered to the crowd after the ceremony.
