MANVILLE

-- A Manville man allegedly robbed a convenience store today in his hometown, and threatening the clerk with a knife, authorities said.

Joseph Volpone, 22, of South 15th Avenue was charged with first-degree robbery and third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, Somerset County Prosecutor Wayne Forrest said.

Manville police responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Stop N Go on South Main Street, where the clerk and additional eyewitnesses provided a description, Forrest said.

Officers found Volpone, who had a black-handled steak knife in his possession, near another convenience store on West Camplain Road, Forrest said.

Manville police took Volpone back to the scene, where the clerk and other witnesses identified him, Forrest said.
