TRENTON — The New Jersey State Police will accept applications for its next class of recruits from May 7 through May 29, the division announced today.

News of the application window, the first since February 2010, comes as Gov. Chris Christie is proposing enough money in next year's budget to pay for two new classes.

The division is in dire need of new blood to replace a wave of retirees heading for the exits during the past few years, a trend that is expected to continue.

But at the same time, the State Police continue to struggle to attract new black troopers to the force. In contrast, Hispanics and women have made gains in the ranks.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old and must not turn 35 before graduating from the academy. For more qualifications and to apply, visit www.njtrooper.com.
