Spring 2017 breaks

Tuesday, 18th April 2017 by Debbie 2 Comments

SNAP SALE!

The sun is shining and today we headed to Norfolk on one of our regular maintenance trips. I’ll be popping in to see all the properties so it will be a busy week. But I’m a little sad. Why? Because for some strange reason, next week is available in three out of the four cottages! No, this can’t be? Well Church Cottage has good reason to, as it’s sooo shiny and new to the website, but I’d love there to be guests in them all. 🙂

Our latest special offers and November availability

Thursday, 27th October 2016 by Debbie Leave a Comment

The clocks are about to go back and the winter is drawing in. Norfolk is one of the mildest counties in England and it’s very rare that you’ll encounter snow by the coast, so you could be enjoying some sunshine in a sheltered spot instead! Why not book a short break and come and enjoy the peace and quiet of the Norfolk coast? Combine it with some Christmas shopping at the individual shops you’ll find around the area.

Spring Break discounted late deals!

Wednesday, 23rd March 2016 by Debbie Leave a Comment

Come to Norfolk to enjoy almost deserted sandy beaches, discover pretty seaside villages, take a walk around one of the many open gardens or just relax in one of the properties with a DVD and a fish and chip takeaway. Rest, relax or explore, the choice is yours.

We have some very untidy gaps in our calendar that we’d like to fill!

As a thank you for subscribing to our newsletter, we’d like to offer our regular blog readers the chance to grab a discounted break during April and May.

Guest charges for booking your holiday online

Thursday, 28th January 2016 by Debbie 5 Comments

I received an email this week, pointing to a new charge that the Homeaway Group are bringing in during February, that of a “service fee” for guests. Homeaway are a US based, large holiday group of listing sites, now owned by Expedia.  Some of you will use Homeaway or have come across one of its subsidiaries, Owners Direct, a favoured site by many UK guests in particular. They already abandoned their USP some time ago in that many of the properties are agency properties rather than owner run ones and enquiring will only get you through to a customer service team who will have no personal knowledge of the property you are enquiring about.

pound signService fees are gradually creeping across the board into all the big sites, usually “sold” to you the guest as a price worth paying for the security and convenience of booking through their site. Ultimately it simply means you will pay more for your holiday than if you book your holiday direct with the owner.  The owners are not benefiting from this change. Increasingly, the larger companies are “meddling” in our businesses more and more, bringing in automatic quoting systems and trying to channel us all into online booking.

Holiday groups on facebook

Tuesday, 7th April 2015 by Debbie Leave a Comment

Things are always changing in this fast moving world and part of that is how we search and find our next holiday.  The big listing sites are still there and getting bigger, but big isn’t always beautiful is it?  Many are going over to commission basis, where they take a fee and only allow email exchange between the guests and their owner through their sites. I advertise in many places, as I’m a big believer in not putting all your eggs in one basket, so you may find Norfolk Coastal Holidays cropping up on several different sites as well as just appearing in a search in its own right.

Social media has become a big part of people’s everyday lives; it’s easy to drop in and out of and allows an owner and guest to make personal contact, in a way never possible before. So this leads me to talk about two facebook groups that I participate in.

What our guests say:

Another lovely holiday at Cromer Flint Cottage. Lovely town, we enjoyed meals at Bann Thai, Masala Twist, Red Lion and Cromer Tandoori. As paid up CAMRA members, we enjoyed some decent beers at the small Beer Festival on the pier, Red Lion, The Hill House Inn at Happisburgh and Kings Arms at Blakeney. Cley Marshes and visitors centre were wonderful as usual. Look out for the Peregrine Falcons nesting on Cromer Church Tower. May 2024 Cromer Flint Cottage

Far exceeded our expectations. Very peaceful, clean and everybody seems very friendly. Our two young dogs Bert and Ernie loved their stay (walks on the beach and in Bacton Woods). They will be recommending this place to all their friends on facebook." Sept 19, Tides

I wanted to send you an email to personally thank you for a wonderful stay. You have created a truly superb place to stay and provided us with a week of much needed R&R - thank you so much. Aug 20, Beachscape

Another great holiday here. The dogs had the best time on the beach and in the sea. The new beach is amazing. Weather wasn't the best but that didn't stop us doing things. My parents thoroughly enjoyed it too and they loved sitting on the veranda watching the ships out to sea. The chalet was lovely as usual, clean and cosy. Look forward to coming again next year. Well some of you will be aware, but if not, my silence on social media has been down to that change in life we all reach, when the death of our last parent means we become the elders of the family, and that reminder of our own mortality! My lovely mum, died in July at the grand old age of 97! John and I took her out just a month before to a nearby garden and cafe where she enjoyed the sunshine and flowers. Her joy in life were music and dance, and she was a professional dancer before she settled into having a family. The photo is of her in her Song Of Norway costume, that she toured the country performing in.Just a month before her death, the latest addition to the family arrived, my great niece who came to celebrate my birthday with me at the weekend. 🎂 The circle of life completes and our attention turns to the next generation. 💗👶🏻I’m still here, buried in lots of admin and clearing stuff, the inevitable burden that falls on to some of us, whilst the business of holidaying in Norfolk just quietly ticks along in the background. Hopefully some of you are thinking about a winter break and our three properties are ready and waiting for you. 😊 Sadly Bramble Cottage was sold recently, so is no longer available for holidays. Sending my thoughts to any of you who’ve lost a loved one this year. Debbie xx ... See MoreSee Less

Dog friendly #holidays 🐾 all year round, on the beautiful Norfolk coast. 🌊 Four fabulous homes offering something unique to all 🌅Owner Debbie Copas

The circle of life completed this summer. The firs The circle of life completed this summer. The first great grandchild arrived in the family, baby Nina, my great niece. I got baby cuddles at just a few days old. 💕 One month later, my 97 year old mum drew her last breath, 💔 but not before meeting baby Nina twice thanks to Herculean efforts by my niece to get them together. 💗
We asked mum to hang in there to meet her great grandchild and she surely did, but after that, enough was enough.
It’s funny how life goes isn’t it? That brings to end six years of caring for our parents, something we can never regret but took its toll on our lives and the business. We’re hoping it’s our time now in the years to come, seeing friends, family and enjoying some holidays, as well as keeping our Norfolk properties ticking along.
To all those who’ve lost family members and gained new ones this year, I send my love and empathy. It’s a bittersweet time. xx

Yes I’m still here, gradually getting back into some sort of working life. 😊
Last weekend was such a poignant time. First afternoon tea out with my mum since dads death. First Mothers Day for John without his mum. First time of taking mum out since moving her into a care home.
Life is full of so many challenges but we can only live one day at a time and try to enjoy the moment.
We’re now in Norfolk catching up with a bit of maintenance and keeping the wheels of the ‘Norfolk’ train running.

A very Happy New Year all. Some sad but reflective A very Happy New Year all. Some sad but reflective news about life behind scenes at Norfolk Coastal Holidays HQ.
I disappeared off the radar these last few months as my dad’s health deteriorated and I couldn’t manage to run my business whilst caring for him and my mum. Sadly, he died in November and so I have been busy planning first his cremation and now a celebration of his life at the end of January.
His was a life well lived and he reached the grand old age of 96! He was born in Kings Lynn, so clearly my love of Norfolk is in the blood. 😉 Here he is celebrating his 96th birthday earlier this year and he and mum enjoying the delights of Norfolk a couple of years before, along the coast at Bacton and a day out at Felbrigg Hall, always finishing with tea and cake at the cafe!
So many happy memories were made in Norfolk. Family holidays started with my mums parents back in the fifties, and they have continued through the generations with the fourth generation now holidaying there too.
So my calendars had to be shut until a week ago, when I’ve finally found a little bit of time to sort out the business and get ready to take bookings again.
Get in touch if you’d like to make memories in Norfolk too. 💖
The best way is to send an enquiry via my website where you’ll find availability and rates. Cromer Flint Cottage calendar will open up further in a little while but you can book spring breaks in the meantime!
