1851 $1 Restrike PCGS PR64 CAM CAC

An extraordinary testament to 19th-century numismatic artistry, this 1851 Seated Liberty Dollar stands among the most significant rarities of the series. From a circulation strike mintage of just 1,300 pieces, this remarkable PR64 Cameo example represents an even more elusive category - one of approximately 75 proof specimens believed struck, all presumably restrikes produced after the date of issue.

This specimen, from the prestigious Schwenk Family Collection, represents the OC-P3 die marriage, considered the most "collectible" of the three known proof varieties with about 25 examples surviving. The diagnostic features are definitive - a centered date position, refined area beneath Liberty's chin, and distinctive die lumps in the lower left wing feathers. The reverse die's first documented use in 1859 confirms this coin's restrike status.

The surfaces tell a story of exceptional preservation, draped in delicate golden toning with subtle touches of blue and violet that enhance its pristine appearance. The strike is absolute, with frosted devices rising dramatically from mirror-like fields, creating the desirable cameo effect that defines superior proof coinage of this era.

Ranking as #81 on the List of 100 Greatest US Coins, this piece represents a pivotal acquisition opportunity. With PCGS recording just one example in PR64 Cameo and one finer, and CAC endorsing only one at this grade level with two finer, this specimen sits firmly among the finest known examples of this formidable proof rarity.
