Biography

The son of former speed skater Yep Kramer, Sven Kramer has dominated the sport since 2007. While still a junior, he won the 2005 Dutch allround title, finished on the podium of international allround tournaments and became World Junior Champion. He had similar performances the next season, winning silver at the Torino Olympics in the 5000 m and bronze as a member of the team pursuit. From 2007 to 2009, he has won the World Allround Championships three times, the European Championships three times, won three world titles each in the 5000 m, 10000 m and team pursuit and has taken the 5/10k World Cup twice. As of 2009, he also holds the World Records in the 5000 m, 10000 m and team pursuit, and is considered the prime gold medal candidate in these events for the Vancouver Olympics. Sven Kramer has collected 10 Dutch distance titles, four national allround titles and 26 World Cup wins. In 2007, he was named Dutch male athlete of the year, and won the Oscar Mathisen Trophy.

Personal Bests: 500 – 36.20 (2008); 1000 – 1:10.83 (2008); 1500 – 1:43.99 (2007); 3000 – 3.41.48 (2008); 5000 – 6:03.32 (2007); 10000 - 12:41.69 (2007).
