Florida Files Federal Lawsuit Against BATFE & DOJ Over Firearms Dealer Definition

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody filed a lawsuit challenging a new rule change that redefines who a firearms dealer is under federal law. The suit was filed against both the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Department of Justice, contending that the new rule broadens the definition of who is considered to be a firearms dealer. Florida’s lawsuit states, “The challenged rule goes far beyond the plain text of the BSCA. It purports to force thousands of law-abiding gun owners to register as federal firearms dealers and navigate a federal bureaucracy as a precondition to engaging in

California One Gun a Month Law Blocked

The Firearms Policy Coalition announced that California’s 1-in-30 law, which limits California gun owners to one firearm purchase per month, was blocked by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals after it issued an order reversing the previous stay. The FPC filed a lawsuit in December 2020 in the case of Nguyen V. Bonta, in which the plaintiff’s complaint says: The State of California “unconstitutionally prohibits under pain of criminal penalty, the average adult individual who is not prohibited from possessing and acquiring firearms, even those known to defendants as such, from purchasing or receiving more than one handgun at a

ATF Approves Vuurwapen GEN X and HMC9 80% Frames

In a sudden and unexpected move, the Firearms and Technology Branch of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives approved as non-firearms the new 80% frames developed by Vuurwapen LLC. The frames, known as the GEN X and HMC9, allow citizens to build their own firearms as is legal under federal law. Approval of the frames had dragged on for nearly a year. “When we saw just how much of a game changer the GEN X was, we had no choice but to approve it,” said D. Feinstein, Chief of the Firearms and Technology Branch. “I’ve always wanted a

Despite Our Best Efforts, SHOT Show 2021 Is Still Happening

On Monday, the National Shooting Sports Foundation announced that SHOT Show, the gun industry’s biggest trade show, was on track for an interactive germ-spreading experience in January of 2021. Like many other SHOT attendees, I dread the thought of returning to Las Vegas. It’s absolutely awful to me that I spend over 1% of my year in that hellish maze of booths, trying not to pick up handguns covered in the slime of a hundred other men, while dodging tactical beards left and right. About the only redeeming feature is the fact that you can see and sometimes pet dogs

A Pistol Brace Ban Will Happen Someday. You Can’t Stop It.

A Pistol Brace Ban Will Happen Someday. You Can’t Stop It.

A letter from the office of Congressman Matt Gaetz warning of impending secret pistol brace rules from the ATF has hit the gun blogosphere like a hefty child doing a cannonball into a pool. As inflammatory as the blog articles written about the letter may be, its charges should not surprise you for a number of reasons. For one thing, ATF has changed its mind so many times about pistol braces that it’s become a seasonal shift, like New England trees taking on a new color in October. For another, the writing has been on the wall for pistol braces

Lack of Reliable Magazines Limit Hornady’s 6mm ARC Cartridge Offerings

Lack of Reliable Magazines Limit Hornady’s 6mm ARC Cartridge Offerings

If you want to build a long-range rifle on the AR 15 platform, you have plenty of factory options to choose from. Competing smallbores .22 Nosler and .224 Valkyrie at the small end offer speed, while redheaded stepchild 6.5 Grendel offers better ballistic coefficients. Hornady, sensing a need for something in the middle after seeing a lot of 6mm wildcat cartridges, has introduced the 6mm ARC. I am skeptical of it, as I am skeptical of all new cartridges, for the following reasons: It’s probably not going to be any better than .224 Valkyrie for the vast majority of target

Yes, The Mayor of New Orleans Can Order the Shutdown of Gun Stores

After the botched response to Hurricane Katrina which included the confiscation of some firearms, the State of Louisiana passed laws relating to firearms during a state of emergency. Those laws clearly grant Louisiana municipalities the power to restrict gun sales during an emergency. A week ago, the mayor of New Orleans, LaToya Cantrell, issued a proclamation relating to the COVID19 pandemic. This proclamation stated (among other things) that the “Emergency Authority” – consisting of the police and fire departments – was “empowered, if necessary, to suspend or limit the sale, dispensing, or transportation of alcoholic beverages, firearms, explosives, and combustibles.”

A Lot of People Are Finding Out You Can’t Just Buy a Gun Online

First came the panic buying of hand sanitizer. Then, people panic bought toilet paper. Now, food shelves are emptying and firearm and ammunition sales are through the roof. The COVID19 outbreak might be bad for the stock market, but it’s certainly been a boon for very specific sectors of the economy. The gun industry, used to such boom/bust cycles, knows how to respond – but other sectors might not be so acclimated. Here at Omaha Outdoors, we’ve been inundated with inquiries from out-of-state folks – many from California – asking if we can ship them a gun directly. The answer
