Lee Corso nearly falls on ESPN College GameDay during pick of Notre Dame vs. Penn State
The end of every ESPN College GameDay wouldn’t be the same without Lee Corso’s famous headgear pick. He went a step further ahead of the Orange Bowl between Penn State and Notre Dame, donning an entire leprechaun outfit and even dancing with the Irish mascot.
Before the show signed off, Corso nearly took a tumble over the helmets in front of the GameDay set during his dance number. Luckily he was holding onto the Notre Dame mascot and was able to catch himself before tripping.
Watch how Corso, 89, was able to help keep himself upright during the moment below:
Corso previously missed the last time GameDay was hosted by Notre Dame, so he wasn’t able to go all-out on the Fighting Irish until the playoff matchup. While the early celebration from Corso could have ended much worse, the longtime college football coach and GameDay host played it off well and seemed to be in good spirits about it in the moments after.
Corso has appeared on College GameDay since its inception in 1987.
After suffering a stroke in 2009, Corso has occasionally missed weeks due to health issues. However, these absences have become more common in recent years despite College GameDay‘s best efforts to minimize Corso’s difficulties.
“This is a small bump in the road,” Corso said in a statement to ESPN in 2009. “A ‘not so fast, my friend,’ in my game of life.”
Most notably, Lee Corso concludes each episode of College GameDay by predicting who will win the Game of the Week and donning the mascot’s head of the team of his choice.

ESPN to meet with Lee Corso about future on ‘College GameDay’ after season
Burke Magnus, ESPN President of Content, received questions about what’s next for Corso while on ‘SI Media with Jimmy Traina’. He said the network will once again speak with him following this season to determine where he stands with the show moving forward.
“Listen, I think we’re going to do what we’ve done now for a couple of years running which is we’re going to have a conversation with him after the season, see where things are,” said Magnus. “You know, he’s a special guy. I mean, he’s one of the nicest men any of your listeners or anyone on Earth could ever come across. And he’s been absolutely iconic on the show.
“We’re going to get through the playoff this year, let everybody decompress and then we have some time to figure out what we’re going to do for next season.”
