Deuce Vaughn, who is one of the smallest players in the NFL, took a patented zone read and scored his first touchdown of his career Saturday, giving the Cowboys the lead over the Jaguars.

The score unfolded early in the fourth quarter. The play was a simple one and Vaughn, the former K-State All-American, looked like a seasoned vet scoring from four yards out.

Absorb it all in.

Dak Prescott was so excited he started sprinting down the sidelines, waving his arms, to celebrate the rookie’s first touchdown. Prescott, like all the other Cowboys starters, had the day off from on-field action. So he became the best cheerleader he could be as Dallas took a 16-14 lead. Need evidence? Check the video.

Last time Deuce Vaughn played at AT&T Stadium, he was MVP of the game

The Cowboys selected Deuce Vaughn in the sixth round of this year’s draft. Chances are, if he was taller than 5-foot-5, his draft value would be much higher. Reports out of Oxnard, Calif., site of Cowboys training camp, suggest Vaughn is turning heads as he pushes for playing in the Cowboys tailback rotation, Plus, he’s a great all-purpose player. He can also return kicks.

In what ended up being a 28-23 loss to the Jaguars, Vaughn rushed eight times for 50 yards to lead his team’s backs. He also caught three passes and returned a kick for 30 yards.

The touchdown probably wasn’t his biggest highlight. Rather, he showed his speed and strength on this play.

Back in April, Vaughn also provided one of the most heart-warming stories of the draft’s third day. Chris Vaughn, his father, is Cowboys assistant director for college scouting. He called his son to let him know the Cowboys had drafted Deuce, asking him if he wanted to come to work with him the next week.

The video went viral. So here’s to more Deuce Vaughn touchdowns.

Pollard said in an interview for Cowboys TV that he’d chatted with Vaughn before the scoring series. “I was telling him it was coming,” Pollard said. “I told him he was going to break loose on one of these plays. Fortunately, he was able to do it.”

The last time Vaughn played a game at AT&T Stadium was a big memory. His Wildcats upset TCU for the Big 12 championship. Vaughn also earned MVP honors. So maybe there are more special afternoons to come for the rookie.
