A first-of-its-kind eye drop that improves age-related near-vision problems has recently been approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The eye drop is called Vuity. It is a formulation of a well-known drug known as pilocarpine. The eye drop is beneficial for people in the age bracket of 40 to 55, for they often struggle to see clearly when performing daily tasks - such as reading your phone or computer screen.
It is recommended to put one drop to each eye everyday. The drops start working 15 minutes after application and the effects last about six hours. Each drop lasts for atleast 6 hours. It can be applied to have better vision throughout the day and you will no longer need your reading glasses everywhere you go. The drops causes no serious side effects, but, some people had slight headaches and redness in the eyes. People might also have temporary difficulties in adjusting their focus after using the eye drops.
How does the eye drop Vuity help?
The researchers said that the aim behind designing Vuity is to allow for the eye drop to quickly adjust and merge with the pH of the tear film. The eye drop helps in rendering advantage of the eye's ability to reduce pupil size, enhance near-vision along with maintaining far vision. According to the report, the results of this research were concluded after two random control trials on 750 people. Half of the subjects got the eye drop Vuity, while others got placebo eye drops.

It is important to know that these eye drops should not be used while driving at night or while doing any task under low-light conditions. Make sure to take the recommended dose, as higher doses can increase the risk of retinal detachments in people who are nearsighted. The new eye drop might be helpful in managing presbyopia, a common eye condition which mostly starts after age of 40 years old.
