Paul, Weiss, Apollo Collaborate on Pro Bono Clinics Focused on Economic Empowerment and Election Protection

Paul, Weiss, in partnership with our client Apollo Global Management, hosted two recent virtual pro bono clinics that involved nearly 50 Paul, Weiss lawyers and eight Apollo attorneys.
On September 29, Paul, Weiss and Apollo, in collaboration with Women Entrepreneurs NYC (WeNYC), hosted a virtual pro bono clinic to provide transactional legal counsel to Black women-owned businesses based in New York City. Corporate partner Matthew Goldstein gave an introduction, followed by a training session on the most common legal issues affecting small businesses. Counsel Femi Austin and associates Anastasia Peterson, Paige Randall and Alexandra Schiffrin created and led the training program. Following the training session, teams of Paul, Weiss and Apollo attorneys provided hour-long consultations with eight women-owned small businesses ranging from a life coach to an Instagram designer hoping to highlight diversity in the medical profession.
On October 1, Paul, Weiss partnered with Apollo again to train for and staff a full day on the Election Protection hotline, contributing 130 hours to answering voters’ questions and helping citizens exercise their right to vote. Attorneys from Paul, Weiss and Apollo fielded questions from callers around the country, who needed information on where to vote, how to obtain mail-in ballots, and more. Election Protection is a national, nonpartisan coalition working to ensure that all voters have an equal opportunity to vote.
The WeNYC clinic included, among others, corporate partners Matthew Goldstein, Lindsay Wiersma and Manuel Frey, counsel David Levine, Ron Deutsch, Nadeem Waeen and Femi Austin, practice management counsel Margot Wagner and associates Paige Randall, Alexandra Schiffrin, Anastasia Peterson, Monica Hanna, Ethel Amponsah, Rolake Adeniran, Pauline Abijaoude and Shamara James; and tax partner Brian Grieve. The clinic was planned by pro bono attorney Emily Donohoe.
The Election Protection effort included corporate partner Brian Finnegan and litigation partner Andrew Ehrlich, and 24 additional Paul, Weiss attorneys from the litigation and corporate departments. The effort was coordinated by pro bono attorneys Tanaz Moghadam and Emily Donohoe, counsel Kyle Smith and associate Merinda Davis.
