Giant Food Stores is expanding its grocery pickup service to more stores in central Pennsylvania.

The service is now available at 6560 Carlisle Pike in Silver Spring Township, Cumberland County. The store is the first in the county where shoppers can pick up pre-ordered groceries from a Giant store.

Shoppers place their orders online at Giant Foods or Peapod and select what store and when they want to pick up their groceries. Giant employees fill the orders and have them ready to be delivered directly to shoppers’ cars.

Later this year Giant said it will introduce the program at more stores in Cumberland County, including the one at 255 Cumberland Parkway in Upper Allen Township as well as 255 S. Spring Garden St and 950 Walnut Bottom Road, both in Carlisle.

Earlier this year it introduced the service at stores at 277 Hershey Road in Hummelstown, Dauphin County, and 1008 Lititz Pike in Lititz, Lancaster County.

In addition, Giant’s store in Camp Hill is offering delivery service and has extended its territory to customers in Gettysburg, Chambersburg and Shippensburg.

Giant has focused heavily on its Peapod delivery service. Earlier this year, it opened a 38,000-square foot e-commerce hub in Lancaster City to expand that service as well as introduce curbside pickup.

Locally, other chains such as Wal-Mart and Weis Markets have been offering grocery pickup programs at some of their stores.
