After an "extensive search," the West Shore School District has appointed a new assistant superintendent.
On Tuesday night, the West Shore School Board approved a three-year contract for Jamie Whye as the district's assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction beginning July 1.
She replaces the district's current assistant superintendent, Todd Stoltz, who becomes superintendent on July 1 with the retirement of Jemry Small.
Whye is contracted to earn $104,000 in 2014-15, with future pay based on annual evaluations, district spokesman and director of federal programs Ryan Argot said on Thursday. Stolz is contracted to earn $130,000 next year as superintendent.
Whye has worked in education for 27 years, she said, and is currently is principal of the Honey Brook Elementary Center in the Twin Valley School District, Chester County.
Before that, she served as principal of West Reading Elementary School and as a fifth- and sixth-grade principal in the Wyomissing Area School District, as well as "serving students" in California, she said on Tuesday.
"I'm really looking forward to this opportunity at West Shore. I can tell how passionate the board is about serving their students just for the short time I've been here. July 1st can't come soon enough," Whye said.
