Nicole Brown Simpson, 34, and Ron Goldman, 25, were found brutally murdered at her home in Brentwood, Calif., on June 13, 1994.
She had been stabbed 12 times. Goldman was stabbed 25 times. Her body was found outside the house on a walkway. Goldman was found a few feet away in shrubs. Both of Simpson’s children asleep inside the home.
Her ex-husband, legendary professional football player O.J. Simpson, was charged with the murders. He had agreed to turn himself in but then fled on June 17. Millions of TV viewers watched as Simpson led police on a low-speed chase in his white Ford Bronco.
According to history.com, Simpson was carrying his passport, a disguise and $8,750 in cash.
Eventually, Simpson gave himself up.
“The evidence against Simpson was extensive: His blood was found at the murder scene; blood, hair and fibers from Brown and Goldman were found in Simpson’s car and at his home; one of his gloves was also found in Brown’s home, the other outside his own house; and bloody shoeprints found at the scene matched those of shoes owned by Simpson,” from history.com.
Simpson was defended at trial by Johnnie Cochran and F. Lee Bailey. They claimed Simpson was framed by racist police officers.
After an eight-month trial and three hours deliberation, Simpson was acquitted on Oct. 3, 1995.
Later, the Brown and Goldman families sued Simpson. He was found liable for damages in the wrongful death of Goldman and battery of Brown. A $33.5 million civil judgment was lodged against O.J.
In 2007, Simpson was charged with breaking into a Las Vegas hotel room and taking sports memorabilia that he claimed had been stolen from him.
On Oct. 3, 2008, he was found guilty and sentenced to 33 years in prison. He was released from prison on Oct. 1, 2017.
