Flash flood watch issued for central Pa.

(National Weather Service in State College)

A number of counties in central Pennsylvania have been placed under a flash flood watch until early Sunday morning.

The watch, which went in effect at 10:54 a.m. Saturday, includes the counties of Adams, Columbia, Cumberland, Dauphin, Juniata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Montour, Northern Lycoming, Northumberland, Perry, Schuylkill, Snyder, Southern Lycoming, Sullivan, Tioga, Union, and York.

The watch is in effect until 2 a.m. Sunday.

"Heavy showers and possible thunderstorms are expected to affect the area this afternoon and early evening," the National Weather Service reports. "Locally heavy rain falling on already wet ground could result in flash flooding in a few locations."

A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding.
