PITTSBURGH —
will not play or even attend the NHL All-Star game this weekend because he's still recovering from a concussion.
The Pittsburgh Penguins made the announcement Monday in a statement on the team's website.
General manager Ray Shero says Crosby is making progress but "still is not completely symptom-free." He says the team feels it's best that Crosby "focus totally on his recovery."
Crosby was injured after absorbing hits to the head in successive games from the Capitals' David Steckel on Jan. 1 against Washington in the Winter Classic and the Lightning's Victor Hedman on Jan. 5.
Crosby has not been cleared to resume physical activity and will miss his ninth straight game Tuesday when the Penguins host the New York Islanders.
