Voice-over talent and digital creator Inka Magnaye admits she is still having a hard time wrapping her head around the idea that she has a major part in the Philippine release of the DC Superhero movie, Blue Beetle.
Inka says she is still “on a high and it hasn't sunk in, but I think it's sinking in little by little,” considering the movie will play in cinemas this coming August 16, 2023.
Inka was handpicked by Warner Bros. Philippines to be the voice of the Scarab, a.k.a. Khaji-Da, an alien identity that lends its out-of-this-world powers and strength to its host.
And Inka cannot be blamed if she finds this project a little overwhelming, being the first Filipino tapped to do the voice-over of a vital role in a superhero movie for its Philippine theatrical release.
This has not been done anywhere else as far as the movie is concerned.
Inka says at a media conference last August 9, 2023. “There's a different kind of responsibility knowing that I'm the first-ever Filipino, Philippine-based Filipino talent that DC is going to get for their superhero movie.
“And I'm the only one doing this. I'm the only one dubbing the Scarab in the entire region. The other countries aren't even doing that.”
Officials at the Warner Bros. Philippines have confirmed there was no one else but Inka for the job.
“It's amazing because I manifested this,” beams Inka.
“If you go through my Twitter from before, I made like a tweet manifesting... number one, being a voice-over, voicing over a character, video game.
“Two, voicing over a superhero, like DC, whatever. And so, I really wrote it down. And here we are.”
Given that this is huge opportunity, Inka has been more than willing to take on the challenge.
While this is her biggest break yet as a voice-over talent, she wants to make the most out of it.
“I guess what I think about it right now is to kind of figure out what sets my voice apart from all the other voices of the suits in superhero movies, right?
“Like, I want to be able to put a mark on that. Like, ‘Oh, it was Inka who did the voice-over for that. And I want people to be able to set that apart from others.”
And while she’s at it, Inka has made sure that she outperformed herself as a voice-over talent, which could possibly open more doors for her in the international market.
“I want to become a better voice-over talent. I want to keep getting better so that I can, hone my voice to become like that, as good as an international caliber, let's say.
“So, being able to reach that right now—I’m 34—It's so surreal and overwhelming.”
And as a true-blooded Filipino, she also hopes that her fellow Filipinos will show their support to her as she continues to embark to greater heights as a voice-over talent.
She says, “And I love how Pinoys can rally behind these artists that represent Pinoy talents. And I'm so excited to be an addition to that.
“So I hope that people will find comfort in that and find pride in it.”
