Description
DescriptionF.W. Johnson, who owned the Coach Works in Brisbane Street, bought the house, 'Belmont', on Burnett Street, opposite Ipswich Grammar School, from Josiah Francis who had rented the home in 1871 and then bought the property some time later. He had named it 'The Stone House'. Johnson bought the home in the early 1900s and changed the name to 'Belmont', after the Battle of Belmont and his daughter, Evelyn Belmont Johnson. The home has also been owned by the poet, Thomas Shapcott.
