Queen Victoria's coronet to remain in UK after V and A Museum acquisition

A sapphire and diamond coronet designed by Prince Albert for Queen Victoria has been acquired by the V&A Museum. It was previously sold by a London dealer to an overseas buyer but was blocked from export by the government in 2015.

12th September and today's tiara is Queen Victoria's Sapphire Coronet. It was made in 1842 and designed by Prince Albert. Queen Victoria was photographed or painted wearing it several times, even during widowhood. Neither Queen Alexandra or Queen Mary wore it, and it was given as a wedding present to Princess Mary in 1922. It remained with her family until about 2011. It now belongs to the V&A Museum and will go on display next year, marking Queen Victoria's 200th birthday.
