It’s recommended to get 1.5-2 hours of Zone 2 cardio per week split into 2-3 sessions but how do you know when you’re in Zone 2? There are a couple of ways to tell. The first way requires a heart rate monitor and some simple math. The other way is by how you feel. This method is referred to as RPE (rate of perceived exertion). It’s a scale from 1-10 with 1 being almost no activity and 10 an all out sprint. Here are the RPE ranges for the first three Zones. Zone 1 : RPE 3-4 Zone 2 : RPE 4-6 Zone 3 : RPE 6-7 RPE is of course subjective.
