Dmitri Shostakovich - Waltz No. 2
Dmitri Shostakovich's "Waltz No. 2," aka "Dogberry's Theme." There is a certain pomp that I feel really speaks to the character, along with a dash of mystery and danger. There is a honest nobility in Dogberry's comedic buffoonery, and his instincts and knack for being at the right place at the right time save the day for the main characters involved!
THE BANGVILLE POLICE (1913) - First Appearance of The Keystone Cops (Restored in HD)
The Keystone Cops have given some great inspiration for Dogberry in our 1920s version of Much Ado. Lazzis utilized: tendency to crash into one another, bumbling attempts at arrests, and animated marching style. All are indicative of the Zanni commedia dell'arte stock character.
