Eleanor Roosevelt Inauguration Gown
FDR Museum: Painting Collection
This was FDR's favorite portrait of Eleanor Roosevelt. The couple's son, Elliott, commissioned it in 1932. It was completed in January 1933 and presented to FDR as a birthday gift on January 30, shortly before he was inaugurated as America's 32nd president. He placed the painting in the White House Oval Study, where it remained throughout his presidency.
