Mali is a conservative country due to their devotion towards their strict religion Islam. The women and men are not quite equal. Men are more respected than women
A small hillock of sand is crowned by rocks, which were probably put there for a purpose. Perhaps this is a grave or a holy site from pre-historic times. The Sahara is filled with the remnants of pre-historic civilisations. The color of the sand is often an indication that the area was once inhabited by people. The sand in these places is lighter in color and if one looks one can find all sorts of axe heads, arrowheads, grinding stones and pounding stones. I was not good at this and so the tribesmen who accompanied us took pity on me and offered the beads, arrowheads and axe heads that they found. Of course, I had to pay them! Otherwise, they would rather be drinking tea.
