Lucy’s Phone Number - In Despicable Me 2, Gru dials Lucy’s phone number: 626-584-5723. The filmmakers actually set up a real line that takes you to a recording of Lucy’s voicemail. Fans of the film can leave messages all they want.
Multiple Kevin Minions - Who is the real Kevin?! In the first film, Kevin has one eye. In the second film, the Kevin Minion has two eyes. Could this be part of a bigger conspiracy or just an animation recast?!
Despicable Me Minion Mayhem Ride - Universal Studios in Florida and Hollywood both host the Despicable Me Minion Mayhem ride. On the ride, guests are treated to all new animation that also features the original voices of the characters. The animated scenes and stories can only be seen on the ride.
Sleepy Kittens - In Despicable Me, Gru is forced to read the interactive children’s book Sleepy Kittens. The filmmakers turned the fake book into a real children’s story that was released around the world.
The Minion Mini-Movies || If you cannot get enough of the Minions, then you’re in luck. The little yellow monsters star in six mini-movies. Look for a lot of the human characters to join in on the mix too.
Gru’s Speed Dial - In the first film, Gru reveals the speed dial on his phone. Two of the entries include Dave & Stuart, his Minion workers.
Kristen Wigg’s Roles - Kristen Wigg has a leading role in “Despicable Me 2,” but the actress also voices Miss Hattie in the first film. Her transition is great and both characters stand out on their own.
Minion Sizes - The creation of the Minions was a happy accident. In early stages of the film, they were supposed to be either human-sized or monsters. Budget contraints forced animators to create the pint-sized characters that you know and love today.
Gru’s Paintings - In both films, you can see several famous paintings on the walls of Gru’s house. These paintings were obviously stolen during Gru’s bad days. Some of the highlights include the Mona Lisa and A Starry Night.
Minion in The Lorax - If you look closely during an early scene of “The Lorax,” you can spot a Minion stuffed into a junk drawer.
Eduardo’s Original Voice - In Despicable Me 2, the Mexican restaurant owner was originally supposed to be voiced by Al Pacino. Pacino recorded many of his lines, but a contract dispute caused him to leave production. The voice was then replaced by Benjamin Bratt.
Despicable Me 3 - The Minions have their own movie coming out at the end of 2014, but that doesn’t mean you can’t prepare for the next entry in the series. Despicable Me 3 has a release date set for 2017.
Will Arnett’s Weight Gain - To play the hefty role of Mr. Perkins, Will Arnett actually put on a few pounds so his voice would sound more accurate.
The Lorax Cameo - Illumation Entertainment created Despicable Me along with the animation for The Lorax. That’s why it’s no surprise to see The Lorax appear on Margo’s t-shirt throughout the movie.
