After more than 13,200 votes, 47.95 percent of voters picked Barney’s Bakery, 421 S. Van Buren St. in Bay City. Barney’s beat out Elaine’s Bake Shop, 1590 S. Euclid Ave., (46.53 percent) by less than 200 votes.
Dunlop Pontiac, Washington Avenue, Bay City Michigan. A 90-year presence in Bay City was torn down in 2014. The fourth-generation business was founded as Dunlop Bros. in 1924 by W. Lee Dunlop and Hazel Dunlop. It was one of the first to sell the new Pontiac brand in 1926. In 1946, the name changed to Dunlop Motor Co. and W. Lee Dunlop was joined by partners John Duncan, Robert Beattie and Louis Spencer. In 1952 the Pontiac franchise called Dunlop Pontiac Inc. was established.
This is the original Wolverine Knitting Mill Building, on North Jackson Street, Bay City, Michigan. Wolverine Knitting Mill used to make bathrobes and other types of garment for Sears. Founded in 1919, Wolverine Knitting Mills used the facility at the intersection of Jackson and 11th Streets until 1974, when the company moved its headquarters to Lincoln Street. The company closed in the mid-1990s.
