72K views · 488 reactions | How to strip furniture⤵️⤵️ 1. Brush on - We use a basic chip brush with our paint/stain stripper. Brush it on liberally and allow it to set for 15 - 20 minutes. Scrap off - Use a solvent proof plastic scraper to remove the excess. We use a plastic drop sheet to collect the runoff residue on the floor that makes for easy cleanup. 3. Scrub with water - this is the key trick. Use a scrub brush with water to scrub down the residue. This works great for detailed areas that are difficult to sand. You can use After Wash instead of water if desired, but it isn't necessary. 🚨🚨We rinse most things down inside over the plastic drop cloth. For more detailed solid wood pieces, we spray those down outside. It's important to note that we only rinse down the minimal residue, and we are not on a city drain system. It is your responsibility to research proper disposal regulations in your areas as they vary greatly in different locations🚨🚨 4. Wipe down with wet cloth - We use a terry cloth rag to wipe down the surface. Rinse in the water and wipe again. Allow to dry at least 24 hours before proceeding. 5. Fine finish sanding - Each piece varies. We use 220 grit most often to do a light finish sand to even out the color. 651K views · 2.9K reactions | Fixing Damaged Veneer - Modern End Table Makeover | By Flipped by Abby | My dad found these really awesome vintage end tables for me to flip but they were in some rough condition. Not only were they dirty and stained but they also had some serious veneer damage. So, I'm going to show you how I fix it with Bondo but first, I always start out with removing the hardware and cleaning and all the cracks and crevices. The reason I clean before I sand is because all this gunk is going to get in my sandpaper and waste it. Sandpaper is not cheap. So, this extra step is worth it. With 220 grit sandpaper, I sanded this old finish until it was really smooth. And I decided to strip the drawers so I worked my way up from 80 grit sandpaper to 220 grit sandpaper. For this large veneer damage, I grab my two-part bondo to mix up because it's going to be really hard and durable but yes, this stuff is designed for wood and it's not going to crack over time. By taping off the surrounding areas, I'm easily able to pull all the excess bondo off and it's going to save me a lot of time sanding it down. Once I sanded it all smooth, I grabbed my clear shellac to seal the entire piece. This isn't always a necessary step but I had a hunch that this was in a smoker's house just by the age and because of all the stains on the top. So, this will seal in any lingering smells that might be inside of the wood. Shellac is also great for blocking bleed through whenever you're working with dark woods like mahogany. Priming isn't a necessary step because I'm using my Milange One Paint in the color jet black. It has a built-in primer and top coat that I do actually trust.
