Northern Bobwhite (Colinus virginianus). For some species, such as Northern Bobwhite and American Kestrel, the shift in land use in Western Fairfax county seems to explain part of the declining numbers. A very popular and economically important game bird of the southeastern U.S., the Northern Bobwhite’s population declines in recent years is cause for concern. Proper habitat management is crucial to maintain populations of Northern Bobwhite.
