Christmas Palm Tree - Veitchia (Adonidia) merrillii
Veitchia (Adonidia) merrillii (the Christmas Palm or Manila Palm). This is an attractive and variable (i.e. there are many cultivars) palm from the Philippines. It is a tropical species which can be grown (with great difficulty) in temperate climates. It is naturally a solitary palm, but is often grown in groupings (called multiples) as shown in the photo. They are relatively slow and max out at around twenty feet.
