Trichomonas vaginalis causes trichomonad vaginitis or Trich. Symptoms include persistent vaginal inflammation, yellowish frothy, foul-smelling vaginal discharge, burning on urination, itching and irritation of the vaginal area. There is only a trophozoite stage with an undulating membrane and posterior axostyle. The infection can be treated with metronidazole.
