The same idea of a husband and wife attempting to spend their afterlife together by being buried next to each other. The irony is that according to the source of the picture, Richard II England and his wife who are the figures in the tombstone, were unable to remain together in their afterlife because someone had broken into the wife's tomb and stolen her bones (perhaps because the king and queen did not give enough themselves).
