Homemade Beef Rice-A-Roni – never use the boxed stuff again! This looked and tasted just like the real thing! I had to tell my husband that I made the rice from scratch – not a box. Rice, pasta, beef broth, beef bouillon, onion powder, Worcestershire, soy sauce, garlic powder, pepper and chopped carrots. Seriously delicious – tons of great beefy flavor! We make this all the time – SO much better than the box.

Pin This RecipeOne of our all-time favorite side dishes is Beef Rice-A-Roni. We’ve been eating it forever! It is so easy to make, and we just love it with steaks! I have a great recipe for Homemade Chicken Rice-A-Roni, and I decided that I needed to make a Homemade Beef Rice-A-Roni recipe.
This looked and tasted just like the real thing! I had to tell Chicken Legs that I made the rice from scratch – not a box. He was impressed!
I like to keep ziplock baggies of the rice and broken spaghetti mixture in the pantry. It makes this homemade version so easy for a weeknight side dish. I used some chopped canned carrots in the rice because the boxed version has little carrots in the rice. I only used about 3 tablespoons of the carrots. Use the remaining carrots as a side dish later or chop them up and freeze them to use in the rice later.

I was hoping someone could help. I want to make this for supper but as I feed alot of people with very little I need to double the recipe. So if I just double the measurement for everything will it still come out okay>
Yes
Made it just as in your recipe…absolutely delicious! Would it turn out just as great if you used brown rice or jasmine rice?
Brown rice required a different amount of liquid and cooking time. You would need to make adjustments. I haven’t made this with brown rice, so I can not say how to change the recipe. If you try it, let us know how it turns out!
This recipe is seriously awesome! I have never cared for the beef Rice-a-Roni box mix. So bland and unnecessarily salty. I used unsalted Swanson’s Beef Stock in this, as there is plenty enough salt in the beef bouillon powder, Worcestershire sauce and lower sodium soy sauce. Trust me, you will not miss the additional salt. Everybody I’ve made this for loves this recipe! This is my most requested side dish.
This is so much better than store bought rice-a-Roni!! I’m using it with my garden fresh zucchini to have zucchini boats! Added the pulp of the zucchini and some hamburger meat, voilà!
I’ve made this from scratch using orzo pasta, it turned out great!
Ugh!! I have loved every recipe from your blog until this one and I was so disappointed! One salty bomb of a mess! But then I re-read the recipe and realized that 4.5 tsp of Worcestershire is NOT the equivalent of 4.5 ounces!! Reader error! Cannot wait to retry correctly this time! But first I am making your marinated hot dogs tomorrow night! Love your blog!
I hope you’ll try it again. It tastes better than the boxed stuff.
You are going to love the hotdogs – they are the best!
Haven’t had Rice-a-Roni for 40 years, so am not sure if this tastes similar. Nevertheless, this was a really good side dish with steak. Thank you!
I really liked this. I don’t think it tasted exactly like Rice a Roni but I liked the difference. Maybe it depends on the brand of beef bouillon. I actually browned ground beef and then proceeded with the rice recipe in the same pan which is a meal I occasionally serve for dinner.
Thanks for sharing! I’ll make it again.
This was yummy. My kids went back for seconds. My husband asked me how many boxes I used when he sat down to eat and I told him none.
I made this last week and we LOVED it! It was even tastier for leftovers the next afternoon! I have a question for you…do you think this would freeze well? Thanks!
Hi! I hope you can help me! I chose to try a new recipe this week – it’s your recipe with ground beef, Rice a Roni, cheese, French’s fried onions, and cream of chicken soup. Well the grocery store is hit or miss with groceries at the moment, and didn’t have the rice a roni. Can I make this first, then substitute it into the recipe? Also, the only spaghetti I have is the fideo – precut noodles. Thank you! I love so many of your recipes!

I only had instant rice. I was worried the noodles would not cook.I uesed 1 cup of rice to one cup of liquid. Then added extra beef broth as it cooked to make let it boil a little longer to cook the noodles. Turned out awesome!
My son and I love your chicken rice-a-roni recipe – we haven't bought a boxed mix since finding your recipe. I'll definitely be trying this beef recipe very soon. Thank you!
Looks awesome! Did you use instant rice?
No – I used regular long grain rice.
Sometimes you just can't beat a classic like this dish!
