A bracelet is a piece of jewellery worn on the wrist. Bracelets can be used for a variety of purposes, such as jewellery. When worn as jewellery, bracelets can serve as an auxiliary function while retaining other decorative items such as charm. Medical and identity information is found on some bracelets, such as allergy bracelets, hospital patient labels, and newborn bracelets. Bracelets can be worn to mark a specific phenomenon, such as breast cancer awareness or religious/cultural purposes.

If the bracelet is a single inflexible loop, it is often called a bangle. When worn on the ankle, it is called an ankle bracelet or anklet. The boot bracelet is used to decorate boots. In common parlance, handcuffs are sometimes called bracelets. Bracelets can be made from metal, leather, cloth, plastic, beads, other materials, and jewelry bracelets that sometimes contain jewelry, rocks, wood, shells, crystals, metal or plastic hoops, pearls, and many other materials.

The history of Egyptian bracelets dates back to 5000 BCE. They start with materials such as bones, stones, and woods to serve religious and spiritual interests. The scarab bracelet, recognized by the National Geographic Society, is one of Ancient Egypt’s most recognizable symbols. The scarab was regeneration and rebirth. Carved scarabs were worn as jewelry and wrapped in linen mummy bandages. The myth tells of the scarab god Khepri, who pushes the sun across the sky.

In 2008, Russian archaeologists from the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of Novosibirsk, working at the site of Denisova Cave in the Siberian Altai Mountains, discovered a small fragment of the bone of the fifth finger of a minor hominin named “X-woman” (referring to the maternal origin of mitochondria. DNA,) or Denisova’s hominin. The artefacts, including a bracelet found in a cave at the same level, were carbon dating from about 40,000 BP.

Bulgaria has a tradition called martenitsa, which sometimes involves tying a red and white string around the wrist to please Baba Marta so that spring comes early.

In Greece, a similar tradition to weave a red and white bracelet on the first day of March and wear it until the end of summer is called “Martis” and is believed to help protect the wearer’s skin from the intense Greek sun.

In some parts of India, the number and type of bangles worn by a woman indicate her marital status.

In Sikhism, the iron bracelet is one of the must-have items known as the Five Ks.

In Latin America, Azabache Bracelets are worn to protect against Mal de Ojo or the evil eye. It is believed that the evil eye is the result of excessive admiration or envious glances from others.
