H, is the eighth letter of the alphabet. This corresponds to the Semitic cheth and Greek eta (Η). Can be obtained from the early fence symbol. In the early Greek alphabets, the form with three horizontal stripes and the simpler form X was widely distributed. In the Etruscan form, the predominant form was similar to the early Greek form, and the same or similar form was found in very early Latin inscriptions, but the form H is used in Latin, or in the Greek alphabet of Cumae, or some other source.

The modern majuscule letter H comes directly from Latin. The cursive Latin form resembled a stylized version of the modern minuscule letter h, as well as a general form.

In the alphabets used to write the Greek dialect from Eastern Ionium, the letter became superfluous as a result of the disappearance of the aspiration, which it represented in this dialect.
