Jurassic Park is an American science fiction on a disastrous attempt to create a theme park of cloned dinosaurs. It began in 1990 when Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment acquired the rights to the Michael Crichton novel before it was even published.

The book was successful, as was the 1993 film adaptation of Steven Spielberg. The film received a theatrical re-release of 3D in 2013 and was selected in 2018 for preservation in the “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant at the US National Film Archive from the Library of Congress.” In 1995, sequel novel, The Lost World, was published, and in 1997, the film version.

Subsequent films in the series, including the Jurassic Park III (2001), is not based on novels. Numerous franchise-based video games and comics were created after the release of the 1993 film, and several water routes were opened in various Universal theme parks. Since 2000, the franchise has generated revenue of $5 billion, making it one of the most profitable media franchises of all time.

The fourth film “Jurassic World” was originally planned to be released in 2005, but it was postponed many times, and eventually, it was released in June 2015. It became the first film to gross over more than $500 million worldwide at the start of the weekend and grossed more than $1.6 billion. Throughout this theatrical run, it is the sixth highest-grossing film of all time. It was also the second film with the highest profit in 2015. When it adapts to monetary inflation, the Jurassic World is the second largest in the series after the Jurassic Park.

The fifth film, The Jurassic World: The Fallen Kingdom, was released in June 2018. The film has earned more than 1.3 billion dollars worldwide, making it the third Jurassic film worth billions of dollars. This is the third movie with the highest profit in 2018 and the 12th largest film of all time. The sixth film, Jurassic World 3, is scheduled for release on June 11, 2021. Netflix and DreamWorks Animation also plan to release the animated Jurassic World series in 2020.
