The city of Charleston will hold a community meeting tonight on the flooding problems in West Ashley's Church Creek drainage basin.
The engineering firm hired by the city will share its early conclusions from 6-8 p.m. at Citadel Mall's center court.
The meeting comes in the wake of Tropical Storm Irma, which inundated some neighborhoods in the flood-prone drainage basin for the third time in as many years.
The city's latest effort to try to stop such flooding began in February, when City Council passed a nine-month building moratorium so Weston & Sampson Engineering could study the basin's problems and recommend a new round of solutions.
The basin includes about 5,000 acres along the western edge of the Ashley River, home to West Ashley Circle and several large subdivisions, such as Shadowmoss and Grand Oaks.
Past projects, including the city's $3.7 million drainage improvement project completed there in 2010, haven't stopped the water from rising and spilling into homes during heavy rainfalls and big storms.
