Sandy Lane golf resort in Barbados is one of the most exclusive and prestigious resorts in the world. Sitting elegantly on Barbados’ stunning western Caribbean shoreline, the peaceful tranquility is understandably a draw for those seeking an intimate and private getaway, with spectacular golf included.
Sandy Lane Country Club is home to three Barbados golf courses; The Country Club, The Old Nine, and the famed bucket list course, The Green Monkey. Teeing off on any one of these courses ensures stunning coastline views and exceptional terrain.
Aside from being one of the best golf destinations in the world, Sandy Lane delivers 5-star luxury accommodations, world-class spa facilities, a selection of pool areas, and an immaculate private white sand beach. If you’re feeling adventurous, the beach also offers watersports.
A day on the course deserves a good meal, and guests can look forward to eight bars and restaurants on the resort, ranging from casual and intimate beach dining to refined elegance and cozy nightcaps.
The Green Monkey opened in 2004 to much acclaim, and rightly so. Utilizing the land of an old limestone quarry, the layout truly is unique, with sheer drops and cliff faces surrounding and forming part of many holes.
Tom Fazio designed the course to allow many of these elevated vantage points to include views of the azure Caribbean Sea in the distance. Immaculate conditioning, small water hazards, and extensive bunkers complete this unforgettable golfing experience.
Tom Fazio’s first creation outside of the U.S., the Country Club is a golfing paradise. Combining lush fairways, multiple lakes and open, sweeping views of the Caribbean Sea, the Country Club is 7,060 yards of Caribbean treasure.
The open fairways, protected only by the water hazards and limited bunkering make for a relatively stress-free round off the tee, however, the lack of protection from the strong trade winds can create a real unforeseen challenge.
Originally opened in 1961 as the sole 18-hole course on the property, the ‘Old Nine’ was created during the 2004 refurbishment, with half of the original holes now forming part of the new Country Club course.
Meandering through the mahogany groves of the Sandy Lane estate, the 3,345-yard course is ideal for a quick round or to make a 27-hole day. Tight fairways, small greens, and immaculate conditioning ensure a strong and enjoyable test.
